Itinerary
A day among Mount Vesuvius and its buried cities.
The tour takes you to the Vesuvius area for the visit of Herculaneum and Oplontis, *Mount Vesuvius, and a stop in S. Sebastiano al Vesuvio.
This Napoli Virtuosa city tour circuit, dedicated to the Vesuvius area and buried cities, gives you the chance to visit the excavations of Herculaneum and Oplontis, go on an excursion of Mount Vesuvius, and stop in a villa located on the foothills of the Vesuvius volcano in a town called S. Sebastiano al Vesuvio.
The area of the Vesuvius National Park includes thirteen communes; and holds geological, gastronomical, and archeological characteristics.
Part of these areas of interest are Herculaneum and Oplontis, both UNESCO heritage sites, and places that will tell you about the opulence of the ancient cities and the lifestyle of some of the most important people during the time of the Roman Empire with their dwellings like Villa of Papiri and Poppea Villa (both destroyed by the eruption in 79 AD, considered the largest eruption of Mount Vesuvius).
The ascent for the visit to the Vesuvius will be from the city of Herculaneum, about a thousand meters away. Once we reach the cone, with the alpine guide, the walk continues around the crater surrounded by a suggestive and panoramic view.
On the descent from the Vesuvius, we will find ourselves on the road nicknamed the "Golden Mile" that extends between Herculaneum and Torre del Greco. The road is called “Golden Mile,” according to the units of measures in use in the first half of the eighteenth century, which measured a mile, and for the beauty of its landscapes and the elegance of the eighteenth-century villas.
The tour ends with a traditional lunch in one of these historic homes. After lunch, return to the city center of Naples.
